Breast reduction,
Is the surgical technique used to reduce the size of the breasts. Making the breasts smaller, eliminating fat, gland and skin, which means scars around the areola, in the vertical line under the areola and in the submammary fold.
The surgery is done under general anaesthesia so it will be necessary to stay in one night and the surgery lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
Visits before surgery
The first visit with the surgeon it is very important so he can do a diagnosis, to explain the different techniques and choose the most suitable in your case, assess the possibilities of the size and shape of your breasts and comment the possible complications and risks.
Also he will tell you how to prepare for the surgery and talk about the necessary post-operative cares.
Post-operative
It is normal that during the three days after the surgery you experience some discomfort, that is why it is very important to follow the indications given by your surgeon and take the prescribed medication so the post-operative period will have a favourable outcome.
Although from the fourth or fifth day you can go back to a normal life, you wont be able to do any exercise or carry any weight during three or four weeks.
It is necessary to have regular check-ups throughout the year to ensure that you have the best evolution and desired expected results.
At the beginning, after the surgery, it is normal to loose sensibility in the breasts, normally this is temporally although on occasions it remains. Also the scars at the beginning are more evident, for the pink tone, but with time they will fade to a less noticeable tone.
Are there risks? Are there guarantees?
The reduction is a safe surgery as long as it is done by a qualified plastic surgeon. Despite this, we can´t avoid that, like in any other surgery, complications can occur. Also it is possible that the evolution of the scars aren´t the expected, because the scaring depends on each person.
